Blinn's Valorant and Overwatch teams continue runs of success

The Blinn College esports team earned victories in Valorant and Overwatch play Saturday.

The fourth-ranked Buccaneer Valorant squad defeated Texas State University 2-0 in a Collegiate Valorant battle and improved to 3-0. Blinn won both rounds by a score of 13-3.

Competing for Blinn were Hayden Whitaker, Teague Morgan, Bruce Nguyen, Austin Ray, and Adam Laamoumi.

In Overwatch play, Gabriel Lopez, William Bowman, Jake Langridge, Matthew Hutchings, and Nicholas Behney helped Blinn earn 2-0 victories over the University of Maryland and Rutgers University in the Overwatch Collegiate Championship Series Swiss Stage Rounds 9 and 10.

The Bucs finished the Swiss Stage with an 8-2 record and assistant coach Kyle Murto says his team is hoping for a favorable seed going into the round robin stage of the Championship Series.

Blinn Overwatch was also victorious in an NJCAA Esports match on Friday, defeating Northern Virginia Community College 3-0.

Through five weeks of NJCAAE play, the Bucs are 5-0. Competing for Blinn were Lopez, Bowman, Langridge, Hutchings, and Behney.

Blinn Valorant will take on Bryant & Stratton at 6 p.m. on Thursday, March 23, while the Buccaneer Overwatch team resumes play with a tilt against North Dakota State College of Science at 4 p.m. on Friday, March 24. Blinn's Call of Duty team takes on St. Clair College at 5 p.m. on Monday, March 20, while Blinn Rocket League will face Corning Community College at 6 p.m., also Monday.

Blinn has competed in intercollegiate athletics since 1903 and captured 42 NJCAA national championships since 1987.
