Blinn splits Rocket League, Call of Duty matches

The Blinn College esports team earned a victory in Rocket League play but fell in a Call of Duty match Monday.

The Buccaneers defeated Central Wyoming College 3-1 in Rocket League action to open the NJCAAE Spring Open season.

"We did have a couple of technical difficulties in the beginning, which impacted us and caused us to drop a game when we shouldn't have," said assistant Blinn coach Kyle Murto. "We were able to get them fixed though and finished out the series cleanly."

Competing for the Bucs were Andrew Askins, Jake Tinsman, Vince Purcell, and Braden Nardecchia.

In Call of Duty play, the Bucs dropped its NJCAAE opener 3-0 to Central Community College.

"Landon Campos was a bright spot during the match, hitting some very nice shots and has shown significant improvement over the last several weeks," Blinn assistant coach Ryan Lucich said. "The team was hard at work reviewing the footage immediately after the match to prepare for its next game against Keyano College."

Alongside Campos, Jake Marsh, David Rodriguez, and Mathew Lui also competed for Blinn.

Up next, Blinn takes on the University of Texas-Dallas at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 14. Call of Duty will battle Keyano College at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 15. Blinn's Super Smash Bros squad will take on an opponent to be announced at 5 p.m., and the Buccaneers' Valorant team will face the University of North Carolina-Wilmington at 6 p.m., also on Wednesday.
