The Blinn College esports team earned a 3-2 victory over Colorado School of Mines in an Overwatch match Tuesday.

The Buccaneers claimed the best-of-five National Association of Collegiate Esports match to improve to 4-0 overall. Blinn is tied with Boise State University for first place in the West Central Conference standings. 

Competing for the Bucs were sophomores Gabriel Lopez, William Bowman, William Rossley, George Francis, and Aaron Lazo.

Blinn had a 2-0 lead in the series, but School of Mines rallied to force a fifth round before the Bucs recovered in the decider.

"While I am happy with the win, I am by no means happy with how we achieved it," Buccaneers assistant coach and Overwatch coach Kyle Murto said. "Due to our own sloppy play, we allowed them to come back and take a couple maps off of us. I am hoping this is a wakeup call for my team, and we can bounce back and play at the level I know we are capable of playing. The best thing that will come from this is that we now have a lot of game film to go over and work on these mistakes that we made so we do not make them going forward."

Blinn's Overwatch team resumes its season with a match against Stone Child College at 8 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 24. Later this week, the Buccaneers will take on the University of North Texas-Dallas in a Super Smash Bros tilt at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 20.

Blinn has competed in intercollegiate athletics since 1903 and captured 42 NJCAA national championships since 1987.
