Blinn sweeps three matches in Super Smash Bros play

The Blinn College esports team earned a trio of victories in Super Smash Bros play Wednesday.

Competing in week five of the NJCAA Esports regular season, Jaydon Flores, Christian Ekpenike, and Brett Fahrenholz each were winners in one-on-one matchups.

"This was a really solid performance from all our players; we all showed up today," Blinn assistant coach Kyle Murto said. "We only have two regular season matches left, and we are looking to finish them out strongly so we can all have strong seeding when it comes to playoffs."

Flores improved to 5-0 in Group 1 with a 3-0 win over his opponent from Waubonsee Community College. Fahrenholz moved to 5-0 in Group 3 with a 3-0 sweep of his adversary from Tallahassee Community College, and Ekpenike is now 4-1 after a 3-0 win over his opponent, also from Tallahassee.

The Buccaneers will play their next Super Smash Bros match at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, March 22. Blinn's Valorant team will be in action against Northern Virginia Community College at 4 p.m. on Thursday, March 16.

Blinn has competed in intercollegiate athletics since 1903 and captured 42 NJCAA national championships since 1987.
