Blinn's Valorant and Rocket League teams emerge victorious

 

The Blinn College esports team earned three victories Monday in Valorant and Rocket League play.

The fifth-ranked Buccaneer Valorant squad defeated Rogers State University 2-0 in a best-of-three matchup to improve to 6-1 in National Esports Collegiate Conference (NECC) play. Blinn is second in the NECC South Division.

"We won pretty cleanly tonight and have our sights set on playoffs as we are top two in our group and ready to make a run there," Buccaneers head coach Aaron Kapiko said.

Competing for Blinn against Rogers State were sophomore Austin Ray and freshmen Hayden Whitaker, Adam Laamoumi, Khanh Dewey, and Shawn Fox.

The Bucs will finish out their regular-season Valorant slate with a match against Kennesaw State University at 6:30 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 7.

Blinn's Rocket League team was also triumphant Monday with two wins. 

The Buccaneers topped the University of Missouri-Columbia 3-1 before earning a 3-0 sweep of the University of Central Missouri.

With the victory, the Bucs finished play in the National Association of Collegiate Esports Premier Plus East 1 Conference with a 6-1 record. Blinn has qualified for the playoffs, but a postseason schedule has not yet been announced.

Sophomore Cade Mock and freshmen Jordan Johnson and Andrew Askins picked up the wins for the Bucs.

Blinn returns to action with a Super Smash Bros tilt against the University of Jamestown at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 3.

Blinn has competed in intercollegiate athletics since 1903 and captured 42 NJCAA national championships since 1987.
