Double-overtime thriller ends in 2-2 draw for Blinn and Coastal Bend

BEEVILLE, Texas — Farit Ha scored on two second-half penalty kicks to tie the Blinn College men's soccer game against Coastal Bend College on Friday and send it into overtime. After neither team scored in overtime play, the game concluded in a 2-2 draw.

With the draw, Blinn now holds a 9-4-1 overall record and 8-3-1 conference record.

"It is thrilling that we have clinched a spot in the playoffs and will get to host a game this year," said Michael McBride, Blinn head coach. "Avoiding the loss solidified that we will finish in at least third or fourth place in our conference." 

Ha led the offense with five shots and two goals, while Stefan Fevrier Sildor followed with four shots. On defense, JT McCoy recorded five saves.

Coastal Bend scored the first goals of the match in the first half. The Cougars scored in the 24th and 32nd minutes to take a 2-0 lead.

Ha got Blinn on the board by scoring on a penalty kick in the 57th minute. In the 79th minute, Ha scored on a penalty kick to tie the game 2-2.

After two scoreless overtime periods, the game ended in Blinn's first tie of the season.

Next, the Buccaneers will travel to compete against Laredo College on Sunday, Oct. 20, at 4 p.m.  

Blinn has competed in intercollegiate athletics since 1903 and captured 41 NJCAA national championships since 1987.
