No. 20 Blinn men’s soccer defeats Laredo, wins fifth straight game

BRENHAM, Texas — No. 20 Blinn College men's soccer (6-2, 5-1) picked up its fifth straight win by defeating Laredo College 2-1 on Friday at Rankin Field.

"We struggled to get going, but had a much better second half," said Michael McBride, Blinn head coach. "I am happy that they found a way to get a result when things weren't going well. We had a lot of luck against Laredo, so we need to perform a lot better tomorrow."

Josh Stone scored his first goal of the season in the win. Stefan Fevrier Sildor also scored one goal, while Ethan Unger recorded one assist.

"I am happy that I scored my first goal of the season," Stone said. "Our halftime talk sparked us and we played better in the second half. The front three on offense are really developing a lot of chemistry."

On defense, defenders Martin Reyes, Connor Spiller and Brook Williams helped limit Laredo to one goal. Goalie JT McCoy recorded four saves.

After a scoreless half, Unger teamed up with Fevrier Sildor for Blinn to score its first goal in the 48th minute and lead 1-0. Four minutes later Laredo evened the score on a penalty kick.

Stone took back a 2-1 advantage for Blinn by scoring in the 55th minute.

Next, Blinn will host Coastal Bend College on Saturday, September 21, at 7 p.m. at Rankin Field.

Blinn has competed in intercollegiate athletics since 1903 and captured 41 NJCAA national championships since 1987.
