Adams honored with Don Wilhelm Award

In honor of her record-breaking season, Fatima Adams was awarded the Don Wilhelm Award as the Blinn women's basketball team's most valuable player.

The award is named after former Blinn College athletic director Don Wilhelm, an NJCAA Hall of Famer who served the College for 10 years.

"I'm honored to receive this award," Adams said. "It wouldn't have been possible without my teammates and coaches pushing me every day."

Adams was certainly deserving.

The sophomore from Bryan Rudder High School broke the program's record for single-season points scored (804) and single-season rebounds grabbed (389). Adams averaged 23 points and 11.1 rebounds per game this season, including 23 20-point games, six 30-point performances and one 40-point showing.

"She's the best junior college player in the country," Blinn coach Jeff Jenkins said. "We won a lot of close games this year because we had Fatima."

Adams was named the program's 12th All-American this season after leading the Bucs to their second straight Elite Eight appearance at the NJCAA national tournament. In her career at Blinn, she played in 71 games, averaged 18.2 points and 10 rebounds per game, and broke the career marks in points scored (1,292) and rebounds (709). Adams will continue her basketball career at the University of Houston in the fall.

"She can flat out put the ball in the hole like nobody I've ever seen at this level," Jenkins said.
