ATHENS, Texas – No. 1-ranked Trinity Valley proved too tough for the Blinn women's basketball team here Wednesday night.
The Lady Cardinals, behind a hot shooting touch, defeated the Buccaneers 105-70 in the Bucs' first game in more than three weeks.
"Trinity Valley shot the ball so well," Blinn (12-3, 2-1) coach Jeff Jenkins said. "We struggled defensively, but that's usually the case in the first couple games after we return from the break."
The Lady Cardinals (15-1, 4-0) exploited the Bucs' man-to-man defense with 14 3-pointers. Though Blinn faced a 53-28 halftime deficit, the offense found a spark in the second half and put up 48 points.
"I thought Tierra Tucker and Katrina Hayden played hard to get in the paint," Jenkins said.
Blinn's transition game improved, too, and the offense was able to push more of a fast-paced play.
Fatima Adams led the Bucs with 17 points, while Tucker added another 15 and Hayden dropped in 12.
"After three weeks off and for us to score 70 was good," Jenkins said. "But we're not going to be able to get into a shootout with teams this year, so we're going to have to improve defensively. I think we will as the season progresses.
