Buccaneers hang on for 68-63 victory

LUFKIN, Texas – In a tale of two totally different halves, the 17th-ranked Blinn women's basketball team staved off a second-half surge by the Angelina Lady Roadrunners Wednesday night.

The Buccaneers, behind 19 points from Katrina Hayden, outlasted Angelina 68-63.

"I'm proud we found a way to win on the road," Blinn (16-3, 6-1 Region XIV) coach Jeff Jenkins said. "It's not easy in our league."

Blinn had a 20-point halftime lead, 45-25, when Angelina began its surge.

The Lady Roadrunners outscored the Bucs 38-23 the final 20 minutes, but Blinn managed to hang on for the win.

"We were very fortunate," Jenkins said. "Angelina played really well offensively in the second half, and we missed quite a few shots and free throws."

Tayler Weiks scored 10 points, Amari Jones scored eight and Tierra Tucker scored seven. Brianna Luton, Alexus Freeman and Fatima Adams each scored six.
