Buccaneers extend winning streak to 10 games

CISCO, Texas – As the holiday break nears and teams begin to feel the effects of fatigue, the Blinn women's basketball team has found a way to keep up its fast-paced play. Katrina Hayden

The Buccaneers used 10 players to storm past Cisco Junior College 74-46 here Saturday afternoon.

"Tonight it was a good night to have 10 players," Blinn (12-2) coach Jeff Jenkins said. "A lot of teams are slowing down at this point, but with 10 players playing we never slowed down."

That allowed the Bucs to take a 10-point lead, 32-22, at halftime and put up 44 points in the second half.

The game ended Blinn's Fall season, as the Bucs ride a 10-game winning streak into the holiday break. Blinn returns to the court until Jan. 8 when the team travels to top-ranked Trinity Valley at 5:30 p.m.

Sophomore Fatima Adams scored a team-high 16 points. The Rudder High School product was named the NJCAA Division I Women's Basketball Player of the Week Dec. 2-8. In a span of three games, she averaged 23 points and 12.6 rebounds per game.

Tayler Weiks, who's found her 3-point shooting touch in recent weeks, scored 13 points, including three 3-pointers.

Shanequa Gaston scored 12 points and Katrina Hayden scored 10.

Hayden, like Weiks, has found her shooting touch lately. Hayden 10-point performance Saturday was her seventh double-digit scoring game of the season.

"She's great at driving into the hole and taking contact," Jenkins said. "She hasn't played in a full year, so she's only going to get better every day."

Sophomore Tierra Tucker, who scored four points, helped spread out Cisco's zone defense and allowed the Bucs to penetrate in the paint.

"She made a lot of passes that opened the lane for us," Jenkins said.
