Late trey lifts Buccaneers past Paris, 68-67

Sophomore guard Tayler Weiks buried a big 3-pointer in the game's final minute to lift the Blinn Buccaneer women's basketball team to a 68-67 Region XIV Conference victory over Paris Junior College Wednesday night at the Blinn P.E. Building.
Weiks' trey with 22.6 seconds remaining broke a 65-65 tie. Though Paris would answer with a two-point bucket with nine seconds remaining, the Buccaneers held on for their seventh victory in their last eight games.
"It was a big shot, and I thought it was a great pass by (sophomore forward) Fatima (Adams) in traffic," Blinn (19-4, 9-2) coach Jeff Jenkins said. "Paris really packs its defense in and makes you beat them from the outside, and we were able to hit big shots."
Adams led the Buccaneers with a game-high 28 points, while Weiks finished with 17, including five 3-pointers. Sophomore guard Katrina Hayden added six points.
Blinn led 35-30 at halftime.
Paris fell to 6-4 in conference.
Blinn travels to Jacksonville College Saturday for a 2 p.m. conference contest.
