Shunta Nevitt found herself wide open at the top of the left wing. She took a pass and nailed a 3-pointer that helped the Blinn women's basketball team escape the Blinn P.E. Building with a win Saturday.

The Buccaneers beat Cisco College 86-77 in overtime.

"That was a great shot," Blinn (3-2) coach Jeff Jenkins said. "She's been playing really well."

Nevitt's three couldn't have come at a better time as the Lady Wranglers had cut Blinn's lead to 77-75 with 1:33 remaining in the extra period.

All game, Cisco had negated Blinn's runs by forcing turnovers and getting ample second-chance opportunities on offense. With less than two seconds remaining in regulation, Cisco completed its comeback.

Point guard Samira Rodriguez took a prayer shot near the free throw line as time expired and banked in the basket to tie the game 72-72.

But as they were all game, the Bucs stayed calm.

Shakera Barnes hit 1 of 2 free throws to start the extra period, and sophomores Fatima Adams and Tierra Tucker hit baskets to extend that lead.

The Bucs got 24 points from Adams, and Nevitt dropped another 14.

Following Nevitt's three at the 1:33 mark, Barnes, who finished with 12 points, hit two free throws that iced the victory.

"I thought most of the night we played hard," Jenkins said. "This is the hardest we've played all season."

Neither team found much offense in the first half as the Bucs entered the locker room ahead 27-26.

Though the Bucs led much of the game, the Lady Wranglers never allowed them to pull away. With Blinn's struggles on the boards, the team wasn't able to feed the ball in transition.

"We like to have teams that rebound, and right now we aren't the best rebounding team," Jenkins said. "But I think every game they'll get more comfortable."
