Freeman scores 20 points in Buccaneers’ loss

TEMPLE, Texas – Shunta Nevitt is finding her spot in the Blinn women's basketball team's offense.

Nevitt, a transfer from Texas Tech University, scored 11 points Tuesday night in the Buccaneers' 81-61 loss to Temple College.

"Shunta played aggressive," Blinn (2-2) coach Jeff Jenkins said. "She was a bright spot for us tonight."

Despite scoring more than 100 points twice this season, Blinn's offense is still working to find some consistency in the season's early going. Moving forward, Jenkins just wants to see at least one new player step up every game.

Tuesday night the 12-year Blinn head coach got just that out of Nevitta, as well as his freshman from Navasota Alexus Freeman.

Freeman scored a season-high 20 points against Temple, 16 of which came in the second half.

Blinn trailed the Lady Leopards 40-19 at the half.

"They're a really good team," Jenkins said. "They've already beaten two teams in our league this season, Angelina and Kilgore. It was a good test for us."

Fatima Adams, the Bucs' leading scorer at this point in the season, scored 16 points.

"It's going to take us awhile to find our offense," Jenkins said. "But hopefully we can have a new player step up each game."
