Hill College edges Blinn 72-66

HILLSBORO, Texas – Hill College was able hand the Blinn women's basketball what a non-conference opponent hadn't accomplished since 2010: a loss.

The Buccaneers fell to Hill 72-66 here Monday night.

"We just got outplayed from the start," Blinn (1-1) coach Jeff Jenkins said. "Give Hill credit, they played well and shot the ball well."

The Bucs last loss to a non-conference opponent came on Dec. 31, 2010, to Grayson College, 73-53.

Hill built and maintained its 36-30 halftime lead thanks in large part to a hot touch behind the 3-point arc. The Lady Rebels were able to exploit Blinn's man-to-man defense and hit 11 3-pointers in the game.

Even so, Jenkins isn't worried about the defense's play –– not this early in the season.

"It takes awhile for the players to settle into playing man to man," Jenkins said. "We have a lot of room for improvement."

Fatima Adams led the Bucs in scoring with 26 points. Alexus Freeman, a freshman from Navasota, scored 15 points and Shakera Barnes scored eight points.

Blinn was coming off a 109-51 win against Victoria College Friday night in its season opener.
