After leading the Blinn College women's basketball team on offense and defense, sophomore forward Missy Archie (Huntsville) earned the 2019 Don Wilhelm Award as the Buccaneers' most valuable player.

"This season Missy led our team in points and rebounds, recorded a double-double in our last postseason game, and earned all-conference and all-region honors, so there was no doubt that she is this year's most valuable player," said Jeff Jenkins, Blinn head coach. "I don't get to coach too many players for three years, so she is very special to me and I am so happy that she is getting a full scholarship to Sam Houston State University in her hometown."

Archie was named all-region and all-conference this season after leading Blinn in scoring with 14.6 points and 8.6 rebounds per game. She scored a season-high 26 points in two games against Victoria College on Nov. 19 and Bossier Parish Community College on Feb. 20, and recorded nine double-doubles this year.

After redshirting her first year at Blinn, she started two seasons for the Buccaneers, totaling 578 points and 417 rebounds.

"This is something that I have wanted to accomplish at Blinn for three years and so I couldn't be more proud," Archie said. "I am going to miss Coach Jenkins, my team, and the friendships that I had at Blinn, but I am super excited that next year I will be playing at home. I am looking forward to being a team player, contributing, and hopefully winning a championship with Sam Houston."

The Wilhelm Award is named after former Blinn College athletic director Don Wilhelm, an NJCAA Hall of Famer who served the college for 10 years.

Blinn finished the season with a 12-19 overall record and qualified for the NJCAA Region XIV Tournament quarterfinals.

Blinn has competed in intercollegiate athletics since 1903 and captured 41 NJCAA national championships since 1987.
