Hot shooting Blinn cruises to 77-47 win over Jacksonville

BRENHAM, Texas — Blinn College women' basketball (11-17, 4-12) put an end to a six-game losing streak with a 30-point win over Jacksonville College, 77-47, Saturday in the Kruse Center.

"It was a great feeling to play well and get a win at home," said Jeff Jenkins, Blinn head coach. "We have gone through a tough stretch and stayed together. Our ladies practice hard so it was nice to see them have fun today and have success."

Missy Archie led Blinn with 24 points, while Alexus Wykoff followed closely behind with 19. Mariel Wade posted 18 points and Kristine Ezimako recorded eight in the win.

Blinn and Jacksonville played a close first quarter, but the Buccaneers managed to pull ahead for a seven-point lead (18-11) that they held onto for the rest of the game. In the second quarter the Buccaneers stretched their lead to 42-20 by outscoring Jacksonville 24-9.

The Buccaneers carried the momentum into the third quarter, scoring 24 points, while holding Jacksonville to eight. Blinn went into the final quarter with a 66-28 lead and added another 11 points for the big win.

Blinn will play in its final road game of the regular season against No. 14 Angelina College on Wednesday, Feb. 27, at 5:30 p.m.

Blinn has competed in intercollegiate athletics since 1903 and captured 38 NJCAA national championships since 1987.
