Blinn women’s basketball claims first win of the season over Victoria, 64-38

BRENHAM, Texas — The Blinn College women's basketball team claimed its first win of the season over Victoria College, 64-38, Saturday in the Kruse Center. 

"Today was a good chance to give all 10 players a lot of playing of time and eight of them scored," said Jeff Jenkins, Blinn head coach. "It was nice to get our first win of the season." 

Alexus Brigham and Alexus Wykoff led Blinn's offense with 12 points each, while Mariel Wade followed with 11. Imani Wimbish-Gay and Amaya Armstrong each chipped in eight points.

With the win, Blinn increases its record to 1-2. 

Blinn opened the game strong to hold a 20-5 lead at the end of the first quarter. By the half, the Buccaneers extended their lead to 44-17. Blinn and Victoria played a close third quarter, but the Buccaneers remained on top 53-29 heading into the final quarter. In the fourth quarter, Blinn outscored Victoria 11-9 for the win. 

Next, the Buccaneers will travel to face Palo Alto College on Thursday, Nov. 15, at noon to open the Coastal Bend Classic in Beeville, Texas. 

Blinn has competed in intercollegiate athletics since 1903 and captured 38 NJCAA national championships since 1987.
