Blinn women’s basketball edges McLennan, 60-58

WACO, Texas — After falling to McLennan Community College in the first game of the season, the Blinn College women's basketball team rebounded by edging the Highlassies, 60-58, Monday night on the road.

The Buccaneers increase their overall record to 5-3 after picking up their third straight win.

"I am proud of our team's competitiveness tonight," said Jeff Jenkins, Blinn head coach. "McLennan beat us by 11 points in the first game of the year at home, so it was nice to steal one on the road."

Alexus Wykoff paved the way to the win by leading Blinn's offense with 13 points. Alexus Brigham followed with 11 points, while Kristine Ezimako tallied 10.

Blinn opened the game with an 18-15 lead in the first quarter and continued to hold a 34-31 advantage at the half. The Buccaneers headed into the final quarter ahead 47-43, and although McLennan scored 15 points, Blinn was able to hold the Highlassies off for a two-point victory.

Blinn will open the conference season against Panola College on Saturday, Dec. 1, at 2 p.m. in the Kruse Center. Following the women's basketball game, the Blinn College men's basketball team will take the court against Navarro College at 4 p.m.

Blinn has competed in intercollegiate athletics since 1903 and captured 38 NJCAA national championships since 1987.
