Buccaneers fall to Panola College in conference opener, 69-54

BRENHAM, Texas — Blinn College women's basketball (5-4) fell to Panola College, 69-54, in the conference opener on Saturday afternoon in the Kruse Center. 

"We were down 28-6 at the end of the first quarter, but I was proud of our effort and competitiveness in the last three quarters," said Jeff Jenkins, Blinn head coach. "I really like my team and I know it may take a while, but they will have some success this season."

Missy Archie and Kristine Ezimako led the Buccaneers by scoring 12 points and 11 points, respectively. Mariel Wade followed with nine points, while Imani Wimbish-Gay chipped in eight and Alexus Brigham scored seven. 

The Buccaneers dug an early hole in the first quarter after falling behind 19-0 and finished the first quarter behind 28-6. Blinn settled in during the second quarter to outscore Panola 23-13, but continued to trail 41-29 at the half. 

Panola held onto the momentum to gain a 52-37 lead in the third quarter. The Fillies and Buccaneers each scored 17 points in the final quarter to end Blinn's three game win streak. 

Blinn will take a break from conference play to take on Temple College on Monday, Dec. 3, at 5:30 p.m. in the Kruse Center.

Blinn has competed in intercollegiate athletics since 1903 and captured 38 NJCAA national championships since 1987.
