SHREVEPORT, La. — Blinn College women's basketball played strong on defense, led by Missy Archie with a game-high 14 rebounds, but it wasn't enough to keep No. 4 Trinity Valley Community College down in the Region XIV quarterfinals. The Buccaneers fell to the Lady Cardinals, 88-52, Wednesday night in the Centenary College Gold Dome.

"I am very proud of my sophomores and this team," said Jeff Jenkins, Blinn head coach. "They practiced extremely hard this season despite a lot of tough circumstances. They may not have had a winning record, but I consider them winners."

With the loss, Blinn ends the season with a 12-19 record after going 5-13 in Region XIV regular season play.

Alexus Wykoff led Blinn's offense with 18 points, while Archie recorded a double-double with 16 points.

In the first quarter, Trinity Valley jumped to an 8-3 lead, but Wykoff and Kristine Ezimako combined for the next five points to even the score. Blinn trailed by two (13-11) halfway through the quarter, but Trinity Valley's 8-2 run separated the Lady Cardinals. Wykoff led Blinn with nine points in the period, scoring the final four points for the Buccaneers, as they trailed 27-17 into the second quarter.

The Lady Cardinals created a bigger gap on the scoreboard by opening the second quarter on a 7-0 run. Blinn answered back with a 8-0 run led by Archie with the first five points, while Imani Wimbish-Gay finished it off with a three-pointer for Blinn to trail 38-27. Trinity Valley scored the final two points before the break to lead 44-29.

Blinn and Trinity Valley went back and forth in the third quarter, each putting up 13 points, until the Lady Cardinals pulled away with a 9-0 run for a 68-44 lead heading into the final quarter.

The Lady Cardinals rolled through the final quarter, scoring 20 points, to capture the win.

Blinn has competed in intercollegiate athletics since 1903 and captured 38 NJCAA national championships since 1987.
