Roadrunners bully Buccaneer pitching

BRENHAM, Texas – It was a rough day for the Blinn College pitching staff Monday at Leroy Dreyer Field.

Angelina College piled up 31 hits on the day, beating the Buccaneers 18-10 and 10-1 in an afternoon double-header.

Blinn and Angelina combined for 30 hits in the opening game, including 20 by the Roadrunners.

Scott Jones went 3-for-5 with two RBIs to lead the Buccaneers' effort, while Josh Garza was 2-for-4 with two RBIs and Robert Garza drove in a pair of runs. Tyler Coker, Colin Kowal and Hayden Vesely each scored twice.

Michael Vielma lasted just one inning in the start, allowing five unearned runs on six hits and a walk. Kyle Mueller threw the next 4 1/3 innings, allowing seven runs – four earned – on 10 hits. He struck out two.

J.C. Neighbors pitched the final 1 2/3 innings, allowing six runs – none earned – on four hits and a walk.

While Angelina managed to keep its offensive momentum, the Buccaneer bats fell silent in Game 2. Vesely went 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI, and Nolan Brown also doubled. Four Angelina pitchers combined on the three-hitter.

The Roadrunners piled up 11 more hits off four Buccaneer pitchers. Tyler Day pitched the first five innings, holding Angelina to four runs – two earned – on four hits and four walks.

Cole Doherty threw 1 1/3 innings, allowing two runs on three hits, and Trent Rape was touched up for four runs in 1/3 of an inning. Vesely came on to record the final out in the seventh.

Blinn's defense committed four errors in each game.

The Buccaneers (28-21) host San Jacinto College at 6 p.m. Friday at Leroy Dreyer Field, then play a 2 p.m. double-header at San Jacinto on Saturday.
