Buccaneers complete three-game sweep of Laredo

BRENHAM, Texas – The Blinn Buccaneers completed a three-game sweep of Laredo College with a pair of victories Saturday at Leroy Dreyer Field.

Blinn beat Laredo 4-3 and 12-3. The Buccaneers won the series opener 10-0 Friday and have now won 12 of their last 15.

Blinn opened Saturday's action with a four-run first inning. Cullen Gassaway got the Buccaneers on the scoreboard with an RBI single and Tyler Coker launched a three-run home run over the left-field wall to give the Bucs an early lead.

Sophomore Karl Malecek threw five shutout innings before Laredo touched him up for three runs in the sixth. In the seventh, Malecek hit a batter and walked another with two outs, but shut the door by inducing a fly ball to center field to end the game.

Malecek finished with three strikeouts over seven innings as the Buccaneers won despite tallying just four hits.

Blinn pounded out 12 hits in Game 2 as Scott Jones and Hayden Vesely each had three. Jones was 3-for-6 with two RBIs and Vesely drove in one run while scoring three. Colin Fry hit a pinch-hit, two-run homer and Robert Garza drove in three runs. Coker, Holden Cammack and Nolan Brown each drove in runs.

Weston Wick earned the win on the mound, allowing three earned runs over eight innings. Wick struck out two while allowing seven hits and two walks.

The Buccaneers (28-19, 15-9) host Angelina College for a 3 p.m. double-header Monday at Leroy Dreyer Field.
