Dickey’s one-hitter leads Buccaneers to shutout victory

BRENHAM, Texas – Robbie Dickey threw a complete-game, one-hit shutout and the Blinn Buccaneers scored 10 runs on eight hits Friday in a 10-0 victory over the Laredo Palominos at Leroy Dreyer Field.

Dickey, a 6-2, 190-pound freshman right-hander out of Austin Bowie High School, struck out six and walked one in a dominant performance. He threw first-pitch strikes to 17 of the 23 batters he faced and needed just 68 pitches to get through seven innings.

Eduardo Rubalcaba singled to lead off the fourth inning for Laredo's only hit of the game.

The Buccaneers scored five runs in the first two innings. Tyler Coker got the Buccaneers on the scoreboard in the first inning with a two-run single. In the second, Scott Jones, Robert Garza and Kevin Santana hit consecutive RBI doubles.

Garza went 2-for-4 on the day with an RBI and three runs scored, and Brown tripled and drove in two runs. Jones scored three runs on the day and the Buccaneers finished with eight hits.

The win upped the Buccaneers' season record to 26-19, including a 13-9 mark in the Region XIV Conference.

The series will conclude Saturday with a 1 p.m. double-header at Leroy Dreyer Field. The games will be Washington County Little League Day at the ballpark, and Little Leaguers who arrive in their uniform will be recognized before the game and allowed to take the field alongside the Buccaneers for the national anthem.
