Blinn’s Malecek shuts out Alvin, 8-0

BRENHAM, Texas – Sophomore Karl Malecek threw a complete game shutout to lead the Blinn Buccaneer baseball team past the Alvin Dolphins Friday in the opener of a three-game Region XIV series.

Blinn defeated Alvin 8-0 behind a five-run seventh inning rally, and Malecek kept the Dolphins off the scoreboard, allowing just six hits. The sophomore from North Vancouver, Canada managed to dominate the game without striking out a batter.

"He threw three pitches for strikes and threw on both halves of the plate," coach Harvey McIntyre said. "It was very impressive for him to throw up nine zeroes. Alvin is a very offensive ballclub and he still shut them out."

Tyler Coker went 4-for-5 with two doubles and a pair of RBIs and Taylor Cobb drove in three runs. Hayden Vesely went 2-for-4 with an RBI as the Buccaneers tallied 13 hits on the day.

"I thought our entire lineup was outstanding," McIntyre said. "I thought this was the most complete game we've played all year long."

The victory extended Blinn's win streak to five games and upped their record to 11-9 on the season. The Bucs are 3-1 in Region XIV Conference play and will look to build on that Saturday when they travel to Alvin for a noon double-header. Freshmen Weston Wick and Robert Dickey will get the starting nods.
