Blinn College sophomore Audrisa Harrison was named the Region XIV Conference co-MVP and head coach Jeff Jenkins was named the conference's coach of the year, the league has announced.
Harrison and freshman Fatima Adams were named to the all-region team and sophomore Jazzmin Parker earned all-conference honors. Sophomore Aarika Reyna received honorable mention.
Jenkins, in his 11th season at Blinn, surpassed 200 career wins and became the winningest coach in program history. He now boasts a career record of 225-127. This season marked the third time he has been named the Region XIV coach of the year.
The Buccaneers' 32 victories shattered the previous single-season wins record of 26, and Blinn's national tournament victories over Kaskaskia, Ill. and Darton, Ga. marked the first national tournament wins in program history. This season marked the second national tournament appearance in team history and its first since 1989.
Harrison, a forward from Coldspring High School, averaged 15.3 points and 10.6 rebounds per game. She played 28.5 minutes per game and shot 45 percent from the floor.
Her 387 rebounds this season is the most by any player in program history, and she finishes her career ranked third in all-time points and rebounding at Blinn.
"She was amazing," Jenkins said. "She's so focused every practice and every game. I've never seen her take a day off mentally or physically."
Adams, a freshman from Bryan Rudder High School, was second on the team with 13.1 points per game and grabbed 8.6 rebounds per contest. She shot 49.1 percent from the floor and 76 percent from the free throw line.
She was also named to the all-Region XIV Tournament and all-national tournament teams.
"Fatima's the best freshman post I've ever had," Jenkins said. "She's got a chance to be really special next year."
Parker, a sophomore from Katy Mayde Creek High School, averaged 12.0 points and 1.4 assists per game. She transferred to Blinn from Texas Christian University. She signed with Texas Southern University coached by Cynthia Cooper in November.
"When the game slowed down and we needed a half-court basket, she could get her shot off against anybody at any time," Jenkins said. "You can't guard her one on one. Without her, we wouldn't have gotten anywhere close to winning 32 games."
Reyna, a sophomore guard from Cypress-Fairbanks High School, averaged 7.3 points per game and was the team's most potent 3-point shooter with 53 buckets from beyond the arc in 35 games. She also distributed a team-high 3.5 assists per game.
"The thing you can't see in the stats is how good she is mentally," Jenkins said. "The last five to 10 minutes of a close game, she always turned it up and made plays down the stretch."
