Blinn women set new single-season wins record

PASADENA, Texas – In 35 years of Blinn College women's basketball, no team has won as often as these Buccaneers.

The ninth-ranked Buccaneers defeated San Jacinto 85-52 Saturday, improving their record to 27-1 on the season while claiming the program's single-season wins record. The previous mark of 26 was set in 2008.

"That's something, to say you've won more than any other team in 35 years, but these kids take it day by day," Blinn coach Jeff Jenkins said. "I think when they look back on it, this will be something they take a lot of pride in. It may not be on SportsCenter, but they made history and it's something special here in Brenham, Texas."

Freshman forward Fatima Adams led the Buccaneers in both scoring and rebounding with 15 points and seven boards, and Shanequa Gaston scored 14 points while grabbing six rebounds. Audrisa Harrison scored 12 points and pulled down six boards, and Moe Bedford scored 12 points on four 3-pointers. Darrecia Johnson came off the bench to score 10 points, all in the second half.

All 10 Buccaneers who entered the game scored. Blinn led 38-30 at halftime.

"We had more depth than them," Jenkins said. "We wore them down a little bit."

The Buccaneers will play their final home game of the season Wednesday when they host Jacksonville College at 5:30 p.m. at the Blinn P.E. Building. Blinn will recognize sophomores Khalisha Lee, Jazzmin Parker, Aarika Reyna and Audrisa Harrison, as well as redshirt freshman Michelle Umachi, who will transfer at the end of this season after two years at Blinn.
