Buccaneers ranked 16th in latest NJCAA poll

Head coach Jeff Jenkins and his undefeated Blinn Buccaneers continue to reach new heights.

The Buccaneers (7-0) were ranked 16th in the nation in the latest NJCAA poll released this week, the highest the program has been ranked since it was No. 10 in the nation on Jan. 9, 2008.

The Buccaneers are doing it with a high-powered yet balanced offense that is averaging 83.3 points through its first seven games. Led by sophomore forward Audrisa Harrison, who is averaging 12.6 points and 8.4 rebounds per contest, Blinn has seven players averaging at least 9.3 points per game.

"We're not even playing near the level we're going to play in January or February," Jenkins said. "I've told people the ceiling on this team is very high and we haven't begun to play as well as we're capable of playing."

The Buccaneers' win streak has Jenkins racing toward the program's coaching victories record. Tuesday night's 100-57 victory over Southwest Christian College marked Jenkins' 200th victory as a Buccaneer head coach, a milestone that tied him for the program record with Wayne Williams, who coached at Blinn from 1983-93.

Jenkins is in his 11th season with the Buccaneers, compiling a 200-123 record over that span. While working at his first job at Midwestern State University, Jenkins spent two years as a coach under Williams. Jenkins will get a shot at sole possession of the record tonight when the Bucs host Western Texas College at 5:30 in the Blinn P.E. Building.

"It's exciting for me and my wife that we've stayed in Brenham and at Blinn College for a decade," Jenkins said. "There haven't been any 35-win seasons, but there haven't been any five-win seasons either, so we've been pretty consistent."

Prior to coming to Blinn, Jenkins spent three years at Paris Junior College. He now has a 253-161career coaching record.
