Blinn coach ties program record for victories

TERRELL, Texas – Jeff Jenkins' 200th victory at Blinn College came in one of the program's highest-scoring games.

The 19th-ranked Buccaneers defeated Southwest Christian College 100-57 here Tuesday night in a game that tied Jenkins for the most wins in Blinn women's basketball history. The win, which improved the Buccaneers to 7-0 on the season, tied Jenkins with Wayne Williams, who has held the program wins record since 1993.

Jenkins is in his 11th season with the Buccaneers, compiling a 200-123 record over that span. While working at his first job at Midwestern State University, Jenkins spent two years as a coach under Williams. Jenkins will get a shot at sole possession of the record Thursday, when the Bucs host Western Texas College at 5:30 p.m. in the Blinn P.E. Building.

Fatima Adams, a freshman forward from Bryan Rudder, led the Buccaneers' effort with 20 points.

"She was just making plays," Jeknins said. "Offensive rebounds, driving from the top, making jump shots – she scored in a lot of different ways."

Freshman Amari Jones scored 10 while freshman guard Shanequa Gaston reached double digits with 10. Tierra Tucker scored nine while Aarika Reyna, Moe Bedford and Audrisa Harrison each scored eight.

Blinn led 48-28 by halftime.

"We have a lot of depth," Jenkins said. "This was a good game to get a lot of people playing time and let the bench play quite a bit. I don't think anyone played more than 20 minutes."

Freshman guard Danielle Espinoza went down with an ankle injury early in the game and did not play in the second half.
