Buccaneers cruise to home-opening victory

BRENHAM, Texas – The Blinn Buccaneers were an unblemished 2-0 in their first two road games of the season. They were even better in Saturday's home opener, defeating Victoria College 84-42 for their most lopsided victory of the season.

Sophomore guard Jazzmin Parker scored a game-high 18 points in her first game of the season, and six Buccaneers scored at least seven points apiece.

In addition to Parker's big day, Moe Bedford scored 12, Fatima Adams scored nine, Aarika Reyna and Darrecia Johnson each added eight and Jade Castille chipped in seven as the Buccaneers played at breakneck speed throughout the first half.

Blinn led 46-19 at halftime.

"That's what we do," said head coach Jeff Jenkins, now in his 11th season at Blinn. "We try to get stops and we push the ball."

Parker was making her season debut after an injury forced her to miss the first two games.

"She's probably the best offensive player we've had here in the last 10 years," Jenkins said. "She can hit threes, take defenders off the dribble, post up and she has good ball-handling skills. We're lucky to have her."

Parker transferred to Blinn from TCU.

Blinn rotated all its players into the action, often substituting five players at a time.

Courtney Duke led Victoria College with 11 points.

The Buccaneers travel to Temple College Wednesday for a 5:30 p.m. game before returning home to play Northwood University JV at 2 p.m. on Nov. 17.
