Harrison, Buccaneers kick off 2013 with 96-64 victory

BRENHAM, Texas – The new year looked an awful lot like the old one for the undefeated Blinn Buccaneers in Wednesday's 96-64 victory over LSU-Eunice at the Blinn P.E. Building.

The 14th-ranked Buccaneers improved to 14-0 on the season as sophomore forward Audrisa Harrison scored a game-high 21 points to lead the Buccaneers to their first victory of the new year.

After 18 days off for the semester break, the Buccaneers didn't look any slower as they eventually wore out a game Lady Bengals squad with a furious transition offense.

"They've got some good guards, they're just not as deep as we are," Blinn coach Jeff Jenkins said. "It's always a tough time of year for junior college teams, taking off that many days. I think our depth wore them down. We pushed the ball and got defensive stops, and if one group got tired we subbed another group in."

Blinn took 11 days off for the holidays, but Jenkins said he never considered slowing the Bucs' pace in their first game since Dec. 15.

"We can't slow it down," he said. "We're better in transition than we are in the half court. I think when we get into conference and we have to play more half court we'll be pretty good in it, but with our depth right now we have to push it whenever we get stops."

In addition to Harrison's 21 points, the Bucs got 12 from Jazzmin Parker and 10 from Aarika Reyna. Khalisha Lee, Fatima Adams and Danielle Espinoza each scored eight and Shanequa Gaston added seven.

Gaston grabbed a team-high 14 rebounds while Adams pulled down another 10.

The Buccaneers return to Region XIV Conference play Saturday when they play at Tyler Junior College at 4 p.m.
