Blinn women advance to Region XIV semifinals

TYLER, Texas – Forwards Audrisa Harrison and Fatima Adams each scored 15 points and guard Moe Bedford added 14 as the eighth-ranked Blinn College women's basketball team advanced to the Region XIV Tournament semifinals at the Herrington Patriot Center tonight with a 69-55 victory over Paris Junior College.

The Buccaneers, who improved to 29-2 with the victory, will now face the Jacksonville-Kilgore winner at 3 p.m. Friday. Trinity Valley and Angelina will play in the other semifinal at 1 p.m. Friday.

Harrison posted a double-double, grabbing 12 rebounds to go along with her 15 points.

"She played hard just like she always does," coach Jeff Jenkins said. "She was extremely focused. Paris is big and she's only 5-10, so she was battling. She was not going to let us lose."

Bedford shot 6-of-7 from the floor, including 2-for-2 from 3-point range.

Blinn shot 4-of-8 from beyond the first half to take a 38-33 halftime lead even though Paris shot 47 percent in the period. In the second half, Blinn's defense held the Lady Dragons to just 30 percent shooting and the Bucs extended their lead to as many as 18 points.

Voche Martin led Paris with 11 points while Kelsei Ewings added 10.

"I thought Paris did a really good job of controlling the tempo and slowing it down," Jenkins said. "We took Paris' best shot and we survived, so now we get to play on Friday."
