Blinn’s Keamo named Region XIV South Zone setter of the week

Freshman setter Jordyn Keamo has been named the Region XIV Conference South Zone setter of the week after helping to lead the top-ranked Blinn College volleyball team to a perfect 4-0 record at the Wrangler Classic in Odessa.

Keamo posted 49 assists, 24 digs and nine aces as the defending national champions swept all four of their opponents.

A product of Mililani High School in Mililani, Hawaii, Keamo had 19 assists and a season-high 15 digs Friday in the Buccaneers' 3-0 win over tournament host Odessa College. The 5-foot-8 freshman is averaging 4.59 assists and 2.08 digs this season.

Shay Mitchell of Wharton County Junior College was named player of the week with 74 kills and 88 digs, and Kacey LeBlanc of San Jacinto College was named libero of the week with 58 digs.

Blinn (12-0) coach Erin Mellinger and the Buccaneer sophomores are slated to appear on KWHI 1280-AM's "Sports Line" talk show at 5:35 p.m. today to discuss the early season. That broadcast will be streamed online at www.kwhi.com. The Buccaneers return to action Tuesday when they travel to Baytown for a 6 p.m. match vs. Lee College.
