Blinn falls to No. 11 LSU Eunice in double overtime, 2-1

BRENHAM, Texas — The Blinn College women's soccer team (6-9, 4-7) had a chance to upset No. 11 Louisiana State University Eunice, but fell to the Bengals in double overtime, 2-1, on Wednesday night at Rankin Field.

"The women's team gave an incredible performance that was by far the best this season," said Michael McBride, Blinn head coach. "I am desperately disappointed that the team didn't get a result, but I am incredibly proud that we took a team as highly ranked as LSU Eunice as far as we did."

Hope Hillhouse led the defense with 11 saves, while Karson Funderburk led the offense with one goal.

Blinn limited the Bengals to just one goal in the 13th minute before the game went into overtime.

LSU Eunice led at the half and held the 1-0 lead until the 60th minute when Funderburk scored for the Buccaneers.

The game remained tied throughout the first overtime period. The Bengals broke through in double overtime, scoring in the 101st minute.

Next, the women's and men's soccer teams will play in the final games of the regular season against Angelina College at Rankin Field. The games will feature Sophomore Night with the women's game starting at 5 p.m. and the men's game starting at 7 p.m.
