Buccaneers drop match to Northeast Texas

BRENHAM, Texas — The Blinn College women's soccer team (2-4, 1-3) dropped a conference match to Northeast Texas Community College, 6-1, on Friday at Rankin Field.

"This game turned into an opportunity to give a lot of players a chance to play," said Michael McBride, Blinn head coach. "We played every single player that was available, so we feel like we got something out of the game."

Janay Wilson led Blinn's offense by scoring Blinn's only goal, while Allison McCrady recorded the assist. On defense, Hope Hillhouse and Abigail Ritter combined for 10 saves.

Northeast Texas held a 3-0 advantage at the halftime after scoring in the 22nd, 26th and 36th minutes.

In the second half, the Eagles scored in the 52nd minute to lead 4-0.

In the 67th minute, McCrady passed the ball off to Wilson who found the back of the net to put Blinn on the board.

The Eagles scored their final two goals in the 70th and 72nd minutes.

Next, Blinn will host Paris Junior College in a conference match on Sunday, Sept. 15, at 2 p.m. The men's game will follow at 4 p.m.

Blinn has competed in intercollegiate athletics since 1903 and captured 41 NJCAA national championships since 1987.
