Buccaneers suffer heartbreaking conference loss to Angelina, 1-0

LUFKIN, Texas — Angelina College edged out the Blinn College women's soccer team, 1-0, in the conference opener on Saturday afternoon.

"Our girls played a great game and toe-to-toe with Angelina," said Michael McBride, Blinn head coach. "This is the best I have seen our team play and it is a shame that they didn't walk away with a better result. They have improved so much in a short amount of time, so I am proud of them."

With the loss, Blinn's overall record falls to 0-2 and conference record drops to 0-1.

The Buccaneers recorded three shots on goal, but were not able to get on the board.

Blinn's defense was phenomenal and led by Hope Hillhouse with nine saves.

Angelina and Blinn played a tight game until the 79th minute when the Roadrunners scored a goal to take a 1-0 lead.

Next, Blinn will continue conference play on the road against Tyler Junior College on Friday, September 6, at 5 p.m. The men's team will take the field against Tyler at 7 p.m.

Blinn has competed in intercollegiate athletics since 1903 and captured 41 NJCAA national championships since 1987.
