Buccaneers take down Angelina in overtime showdown, 82-81

LUFKIN, Texas — The Blinn College women's basketball team (16-4, 5-3) rallied back on Wednesday night to defeat Angelina College in overtime, 82-81, and pick up its fifth straight win on the road.

"I am so proud of our team for being down by nine points going into the fourth quarter and making plays both offensively and defensively for the win," said Jeff Jenkins, Blinn head coach. "I love this team's competitiveness and desire to win."

Kristine Ezimako led Blinn's offense with 18 points and helped lead the defense with nine rebounds. Gabriela Bozquez tallied 14 points and led the Buccaneers with four steals and five assists. Mia Cherry was solid on offense with 13 points, while Keaundra Eddings scored 11. Hailey Atwood totaled eight points and eight rebounds, while Tanea Sims scored eight points and Jordan Sanders recorded nine rebounds.

Blinn led throughout the first half, holding a 15-13 lead at the end of the first quarter and a 35-30 lead at halftime.

Angelina came back in the third quarter with 25 points to jump ahead of the Buccaneers 58-49 moving into the final quarter. However, Blinn rallied back to outscore the Lady Roadrunners 22-13 to even the score 71-71 and send the game into overtime.

The Buccaneers and Lady Roadrunners went back and forth in a thrilling overtime period until Blinn made the final shot for the one-point victory.

Next, the Buccaneers will return home to the Kruse Center to take on Paris Junior College on Saturday, Jan. 25, at 2 p.m.

Blinn has competed in intercollegiate athletics since 1903 and captured 41 NJCAA national championships since 1987.
