No. 5 Tyler gets past Blinn, 81-78

BRENHAM, Texas — The Blinn College women's basketball team (13-4, 2-3) led for the first two quarters against No. 5 Tyler Junior College before the Apache Ladies fought back for an 81-78 win on Saturday afternoon in the Kruse Center.

"I am so proud of my team and love their competitive spirit and resilience," said Jeff Jenkins, Blinn head coach. "We have been telling them all season that they are as good as anybody in the country and we just have to find a way to beat these great Region XIV teams that are ranked."

Mia Cherry scored a season-high 20 points, Kristine Ezimako followed with 16 and Hailey Atwood scored 14 to lead the Buccaneers.

Blinn jumped out to a 22-18 lead in the first quarter and continued to lead 41-39 at the half. Tyler grabbed a 60-58 lead in the third quarter and outscored Blinn 21-20 in the final quarter for the three-point win.

Next, the Buccaneers will head on the road to play Bossier Parish Community College on Wednesday, January 15, at 5:30 p.m.

Blinn has competed in intercollegiate athletics since 1903 and captured 41 NJCAA national championships since 1987.
