Blinn women’s basketball defeats Northeast Lakeview, 100-62

BEEVILLE, Texas — The Blinn College women's basketball team (6-1) defeated Northeast Lakeview College, 100-62, after Jenessa Souza, Mariel Wade and Keaundra Eddings combined for 50 points in the Coastal Bend Classic on Friday.

The Buccaneers are now 1-1 in the tournament.

"We got to play a lot of people really good minutes and I am really proud of how our team found Jenessa, Keaundra and Mariel in their zone," said Jeff Jenkins, Blinn head coach.

Souza led Blinn with a season-high 19 points and made five shots from downtown, Eddings scored a season-high 17 points and shot three from downtown, and Wade scored 14 points and made four three-pointers. Deja Adrian was next with 11 points, Tanea Sims scored nine and Briauna Johnson recorded eight.

The Buccaneers opened the game with a 13-0 lead and led 31-14 after the first quarter. In the second quarter, Blinn outscored Northeast Lakeview 16-13 to lead by 20 points at the half, 47-27.

Blinn kept the momentum rolling into the third quarter to stay ahead 55-35 at the 6:33 mark. The Buccaneers stayed on top 71-48 moving into the final period and finished off Northeast Lakeview by scoring 29 points in the final quarter.

Next, the Buccaneers will close out the Coastal Bend Classic against San Antonio College on Saturday, Nov. 16, at 1 p.m.

Blinn has competed in intercollegiate athletics since 1903 and captured 41 NJCAA national championships since 1987.
