Buccaneers outduel Angelina in battle for conference seeding

In a battle for Region XIV Conference positioning, the Blinn men's basketball team got a big win Saturday night.

The Buccaneers, who entered the night tied with Angelina in the conference standings, beat the Roadrunners 93-76 at the Blinn P.E. Building.

"It was a big game and I thought our players played with a lot of energy," Blinn (16-11, 6-10) coach Scott Schumacher said.

From the opening tipoff the Bucs controlled the game. In what Schumacher called a complete team effort, sophomores Macari Brooks, Eddie Alcantara and Terrell Guy dropped shots across the floor, and freshman Roderick Harris gave the Bucs a big presence inside.

Alcantara hit two 3-pointers and Brooks scored 11 of his team-high 21 points. Guy scored a season-high 16 points.

"Terrell is exactly what you want out of a junior college player," Schumacher said. "He works hard, knows his role, and the best part is he's going to graduate this spring."

Freshman Jalan McCloud helped Blinn build on its 44-28 halftime lead with 11 points in the second half. He finished the night with 19. In the past three games, McCloud is averaging 22 points a game.

"This was a great win," Schumacher said. "The guys understood the situation and played at a very high level."
