McLennan snaps Buccaneers’ winning streak

With five minutes to play Wednesday night, Jourdan Stickler drained a 3-pointer and scored off Lionheart Leslie steal to put the Blinn men's basketball team up three with five minutes to play.

But McLennan Community College (8-0) held tough, hit free throws down the stretch and escaped the Blinn P.E. Building with an 88-84 win to snap the Buccaneers' seven-game winning streak.

"We played hard, but we had some mistakes at the end," Blinn (7-1) coach Scott Schumacher said. "We missed our free throws down the stretch and they made theirs."

Stickler's 3-pointer with five minutes remaining gave the Bucs a one-point lead. Leslie then snatched the inbounds pass and fed the ball back to Stickler, who scored 12 points in the game, for the bucket to put the Bucs up three.

Cornell Barnett and Roderick Harris led Blinn's offensive attack with 13 points. Macari Brooks scored 12.

Stickler, a sophomore transfer from Morehead State, had a chance to give the Bucs a lead with another three, but missed the shot.

"It was a good look and a good shot, it just didn't go in," Schumacher said.
