Incoming Blinn point guard earns MVP honors

An incoming Blinn College freshman earned MVP honors at the Texas High School Coaches Association all-star basketball game Monday night.

Jalan McCloud, a 6-foot point guard from North Crowley High School, scored a game-high 18 points to lead the North All-Stars to a 111-86 victory at Daniel-Meyer Coliseum in Fort Worth Monday night.

McCloud also chipped in with four steals, three assists and four rebounds. The game was televised on Fox Sports Southwest.

McCloud is coming off a senior season in which he earned District 3-5A MVP honors with 16.4 points and 3.3 rebounds per game. He shot 47 percent from the field, including 37 percent from 3-point range, in leading North Crowley to a 29-8 season and the Class 5A regional semifinals.

McCloud's Blinn career will begin Nov. 1 when the Buccaneers travel to Victoria College for their season opener.
