Blinn’s Combs, Berry earn all-conference nods

Freshman Darrell Combs and sophomore T.J. Berry each earned all-Region XIV Conference honors after leading the Blinn Buccaneers to the second round of the conference tournament this season, head coach Scott Schumacher announced today.

Combs, a 6-1, 170-pound guard from South Holland, Ill., was named third-team all-conference after pacing the Buccaneers with 16.8 points per game. Combs shot 44.1 percent in 23 games this season, and averaged 3.6 assists per contest, the second-best mark on the team.

"He was our best outside shooter and naming him to the all-conference team is a well-deserved honor," said Schumacher, who just completed his first season at Blinn.

Berry, a 6-3, 180-pound guard from Spring, Texas, averaged 9.9 points per game while shooting 50.5 percent from the floor. He grabbed 3.0 rebounds and dished out 2.8 assists per game.

Berry came to Blinn from Houston Baptist University.

"T.J. was a tremendous leader for us and really was a calming force for us on the court," Schumacher said. "We always put T.J. on the other team's best offensive player because he was our best defender."

Both players are being recruited by Division I programs, Schumacher said.

The Buccaneers went 12-19 on the season, grabbing a berth to the Region XIV Conference Tournament, then defeating Coastal Bend College in the first round.
