BRENHAM, Texas – Macari Brooks posted a team-high 17 points and Marquise Hines scored 16, but it wasn't enough for the Blinn Buccaneers in a 72-69 loss to Jacksonville College Saturday at the Blinn P.E. Building
The Buccaneers mounted a furious comeback early in the second half to erase a 34-22 deficit at the break, but the Jaguars (18-7, 9-5 in Region XIV) made key buckets down the stretch to put the game away.
Blinn scored the first seven points of the second half and led 67-66 with less than three minutes remaining when Nimrod Hilliard hit a running floater to put the Jaguars on top. A Buccaneer turnover led to a transition bucket for Tyrone Spring, but with 1:30 remaining Brooks hit a jumper to pull Blinn within one.
After Jacksonville lost the ball out of bounds, Blinn's final shot glanced off the rim and Davon Anderson, who led Jacksonville with a game-high 20 points, ended the game with a fast-break dunk.
Sophomore guard T.J. Berry scored 12, DeQuentin Greer added 11 and Darrell Combs finished with nine as Blinn fell to 11-14 on the season and 3-11 in conference.
Ten of Hines' season-high 16 points came in the second half.
The Buccaneers play Lee College at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday in Baytown.
