Greer scores 24 in Buccaneers’ loss to Lee

BAYTOWN, Texas – Sophomore guard De'Quentin Greer scored a season-high 24 points, but it wasn't enough to lead the Blinn Buccaneers past the Lee College Rebels here Wednesday in an 85-77 loss.

Jamal Jones, a transfer from the University of Mississippi, led Lee with 21 points while Chris Blake chipped in 13. The win improved the Rebels to 17-8 on the season and 9-5 in the Region XIV Conference.

"They're a very good basketball team," Blinn (11-15, 3-12) coach Scott Schumacher said. "Their players have a lot of length to them and that creates a lot of problems. I thought we kept scratching and clawing to keep ourselves in the game."

Blinn trailed by four points with 1:30 to go.

Greer, a 6-foot-3 product of La Marque High School, was the Buccaneers' high scorer for the first time this season.

"He made a lot of open shots and put us in a position to be successful offensively out of our pick and roll sets," Schumacher said.

Darrell Combs scored 20 points for Blinn, while Donald Moore posted 11 points and Macari Brooks added nine. Sophomore guard T.J. Berry was out with an ankle injury.

The Buccaneers travel to Lufkin Saturday for a 6 p.m. tip-off against Angelina College.
