Late turnovers cost Blinn vs. San Jacinto, 93-87

HOUSTON – The San Jacinto Ravens rallied in the final three minutes to defeat the Blinn College men's basketball team 93-87 here Saturday in Region XIV Conference play.

Blinn led 83-79 with three minutes to go, but San Jacinto's pressure defense forced four Buccaneer turnovers in the game's final moments. After San Jacinto switched defenses, Blinn's next four possessions resulted in a turnover, a 10-second violation, another turnover and an offensive charging call. Blinn committed four of its 10 turnovers in the final three minutes.

"We played hard and competed. We had a chance to win, we just couldn't finish it in the last three minutes," said Blinn (11-18, 3-15) coach Scott Schumacher. "We just had key turnovers down the stretch that really cost us."

Mohammad Lee led San Jacinto with a game-high 23 points.

Macari Brooks and De'Quentin Greer each scored 17 for the Buccaneers, while Darrell Combs scored 16 and Martaveous Smith added 11.

Blinn trailed 54-43 early in the second half before fighting back to take the lead.

"We were playing great," Schumacher said.

Blinn out-rebounded San Jacinto 44-28 as Kendall Deveaux grabbed double-digit rebounds off the bench.

The Buccaneers host Coastal Bend at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday in the Blinn P.E. Building.
