Bucs even their record heading into the break

BRENHAM, Texas – The Blinn Buccaneers will head into 2013 with an even record after defeating Concordia University's junior varsity 95-70 Sunday evening at the Blinn P.E. Building.

Darrell Combs scored 18 points to lead four double-digit scorers as the Buccaneers posted their highest-scoring game since a 101-75 victory over Kingwood College on Nov. 12.

"We got a lot of fast-break buckets and we passed well in transition," Blinn coach Scott Schumacher said. "In the first half we had some turnovers in transition, but in the second half we had just one turnover because we were making the simply plays and getting layups out of them."

Jefferson Ocoro scored 15 points, Donald Moore scored 12 and T.J. Berry added 10 as 10 Buccaneers scored.

Blinn led 42-35 at halftime. The Bucs shot 56 percent from the floor while holding Concordia to 34 percent from the field.

The victory evened the Buccaneers' record at 7-7, including Saturday's 84-78 victory over Lone Star College - Tomball. Blinn is now off until Jan. 2, when it hosts Lone Star College – Cy-Fair.

"That's what we talked about coming into the weekend," Schumacher said. "We had two games to go and wanted to get back to 7-7. Of our seven losses three were by three points and two were by two. In the other games, we were right there up until about 30 seconds were left.

"I think we needed to get these two wins so when we get back from the break we'll have a little bit of positive to work from."
