Buzzer beater lifts Buccaneers past Jaguars, 53-52

JACKSONVILLE, Texas – Freshman forward Jefferson Ocoro tipped in the game-winning bucket as time expired to lift the Blinn Buccaneers to a 53-52 victory over Jacksonville College here Saturday.

The buzzer beater allowed the Bucs to fight off a furious rally from Jacksonville. The Bucs led 50-42 with 2:15 remaining in the game, but made just one of five free throws down the stretch, allowing the Jaguars to claw back into the game.

With 31 seconds remaining, Blinn had the ball and a 51-50 lead, but the Bucs were called for traveling and Jacksonville took the lead with 4.7 seconds remaining.

With the game on the line, Blinn's De'Quentin Greer got the ball inside to Kendall Deveaux. Deveaux's shot bounced off the rim, but Ocoro was there for the tip in to give the Buccaneers the win.

"Jefferson kind of caught it and scooped it all in one motion," said Blinn (10-10, 2-7 in Region XIV Conference) coach Scott Schumacher.

Freshman forward Rashaun Stimage led the Bucs with 15 points while Greer finished with 14. The Buccaneers shot 48 percent from the floor while holding Jacksonville to 30 percent.

"We went to a zone and they didn't make any threes," said Schumacher, noting that the Jaguars shot 5-of-36 from 3-point range. "It was just one of those nights where their threes weren't falling and we were able to capitalize on that."

Blinn out-rebounded Jacksonville 50-25.

Davon Anderson led the Jaguars with 11 points while Daniel Skinner added 10. With the loss, Jacksonville fell to 10-9 on the season and 3-3 in the Region XIV Conference.
