BRENHAM, Texas – The way that San Jacinto College-Central men's basketball was shooting the ball it was hard for Blinn College to get a stop and that led to a 95-73 loss for the Buccaneers Wednesday night inside the P.E. Building.
San Jacinto shot out to a double-digit lead early on and maintained a sizeable lead to hand Blinn the loss and lower its overall record to 13-6 and 4-6 in Region XIV. The Buccaneers have now lost four straight games.
"We just need to do a better job of running our offense," said Blinn head coach Scott Schumacher. "We are not getting good shots and they are."
Morris Dunnigan put together two balanced scoring halves to lead Blinn with 28 points while Corey Henderson was the other Buccaneer in double figures with 14 points. Ilker Er was able to lead San Jacinto to victory with 20 points.
San Jacinto jumped out right from the beginning by using the 3-point shot to grab a 24-9 lead in the first six minutes. Blinn was able to cut into that lead as Dunnigan drove the lane for a layup to get the Buccaneers within 30-27 with 7:31 left in the half.
Blinn wouldn't get any closer than that in the half as San Jacinto stretched the lead to 50-36 at the break. Dunnigan led the Buccaneers with 10 points at the break.
The second half didn't get much better as San Jacinto opened the half on an 11-2 run and maintained that momentum for the remainder of the half. Dunnigan added 18 points in the final 20 minutes but that would be the only double-digit scorer in the half as San Jacinto held on for the 22-point victory.
Blinn will look to snap its losing streak as it hosts Lone Star College – Tomball on Saturday, Jan. 23 at 4 p.m.
