Blinn runs past Texas Southern Club for high-scoring victory, 132-106

BRENHAM, Texas – Blinn College men's basketball looked it best on offense when it was running up and down the floor hard trying to push the ball in a 132-106 victory over Texas Southern University Club Saturday night inside the PE Building in Brenham.

The Buccaneers did let their free-shooting visitors hang around a little longer than they would have liked but when Blinn looked for transition buckets it was hard to stop. Blinn improved to 4-0 with the victory.

"We missed some free throws and layups in the first half but I give my guys credit because they continued to play hard," said Blinn head coach Scott Schumacher.

Morris Dunnigan was solid in both halves for Blinn and ended with 33 points as his game was working from the outside and driving the ball to the paint.

"We are a running team and that is when we are at our best," Dunnigan said after the game. "I didn't rush on offense and I was able to let the game come to me."

Corey Henderson chipped in 19 points, John Dewey threw in 13 and Jarius Kesee earned 10 points in the lopsided victory.

Blinn had a hard time distancing itself from Texas Southern Club until the transition buckets started to fall later in the first half and after Link Kabadyundi completed a 3-point play the Buccaneers took a 47-35 lead with 4:07 left in the half.

Dunnigan was firing from all over the court in the first half and score 14 points as Blinn extended its lead to 60-41 at the break.

Texas Southern Club played a loose brand of basketball and kept itself in the game with long distance shooting and got within 10 points a couple of times in the second half. That is when the transition offense kicked into high gear for Blinn College to pull away.

Dunnigan was able to score 19 of his 33 in the second half while Henderson scored 13 and Dewey chipped in 11 points to help the Buccaneers cruise to victory.

Blinn will be at home again Wednesday, Nov. 11 against Lone Star College Cy-Fair at 7:30 p.m.

Blinn has competed in intercollegiate athletics since 1903 and captured 32 NJCAA national championships since 1987. For more information, visit www.buccaneersports.com.
